Marc Marquez will start the 2026 German Grand Prix from pole position after penalties and Marco Bezzecchi’s withdrawal reshaped the final race grid at the Sachsenring.
The Sprint winner claimed pole with a new lap record, beating Alex Marquez by only 0.061 seconds. Fabio Di Giannantonio completed an all-Ducati front row identical to the starting order for the Sprint.
Raul Fernandez and Ai Ogura will start from the second row for Trackhouse Aprilia, while Fabio Quartararo secured sixth after progressing through Q1. Jorge Martin lines up seventh ahead of Pedro Acosta and Francesco Bagnaia.
Marco Bezzecchi will not contest the race after suffering a collarbone injury in a qualifying crash. The Aprilia rider’s withdrawal promoted several competitors behind him by one position on the final grid.
Franco Morbidelli and Diogo Moreira were each handed three-place grid penalties for impeding other riders during Friday Practice. Following the sanctions, Morbidelli will start 10th, while Moreira drops to 18th.
The Sachsenring is also the first event to use MotoGP’s revised grid format, featuring greater spacing between each rider and row. The new layout will be in place when the 30-lap race begins at 2pm local time on Sunday.
Marquez is chasing a weekend double and a record 10th German Grand Prix victory. He starts the race 32 points behind championship leader Martin and could climb from fifth to second in the standings before the summer break.
