Williams has once again handed an FP1 seat to Luke Browning. The 24-year-old British driver will take part in the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.
This is not Browning's first taste of a Formula 1 car this season. He previously ran in FP1 at the Austrian GP for Williams, replacing Carlos Sainz. At Monza, it is Alex Albon's turn to sit out and let the Grove academy prospect have his go.
For Browning, racing at the "Temple of Speed" will mark his sixth appearance in F1. He is currently focusing on the Japanese Super Formula series with Team Kondo Racing, but the chance to drive the FW48 remains a key step in his career development.
Browning's junior career is impressive. He became British F4 champion in 2020, won the GB3 title in 2022, and triumphed at the Macau GP in 2023. That track record convinced Williams to give him this opportunity to gather valuable data.
“I’m really excited to have another opportunity to do an FP1 session with the team. It’s a great chance to build up valuable mileage in the FW48, deepen my understanding of the car, and help the team with useful data and feedback from the track,” Browning said.
He added that every session teaches something new. His goal at Monza is to support Williams and maximise the team's result in front of the tifosi.
