Luca Marini has been confirmed to race for Tech3 KTM in the 2027 MotoGP season. The move marks a new chapter for the Italian rider after three seasons with Honda HRC.
Marini, now 29, joined the Japanese factory team in 2024. During his time at Honda, he was seen as a key figure in the development of the RC213V, thanks to his consistent performances and strong communication with engineers.
His departure from Honda was confirmed earlier this year when the Japanese manufacturer announced Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso as their new riders, alongside Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira. Enea Bastianini's decision to join Trackhouse Aprilia next season opened the door for Marini to move to Tech3.
This will be Marini's fourth team in the premier class, having started with Esponsorama Ducati in 2021. Although his teammate has not been confirmed yet, speculation points to Moto2 rider Senna Agius taking the second seat, replacing Maverick Vinales.
Tech3 CEO Guenther Steiner welcomed Marini's arrival. "Luca is a rider we have been watching closely, and we are very pleased to welcome him to Tech3 from 2027. He brings a huge amount of experience, but also the right mentality and approach for what we are building here," he said.
Team manager Nicolas Goyon also praised Marini's experience. "He has already shown his ability to perform at the highest level, and his experience in MotoGP will be extremely valuable as we enter this new chapter," Goyon said. "He has a strong understanding of what is required from both the rider and technical side, and we are confident that he will be an important part of our progress with KTM."
This move is part of KTM's preparation for the new MotoGP regulations in 2027, which will be a 'big reset'. With his experience and adaptability, Marini is expected to be a key figure in developing the KTM RC16 in the new era.
