Lewis Hamilton Expects British GP Podium Loss

Lewis Hamilton expects to lose his British Grand Prix podium after provisionally finishing third at Silverstone while under investigation for an alleged yellow-flag infringement.

Hamilton’s home race became chaotic from the early stages after he was handed a five-second penalty for a false start. Serving that punishment at his first pit stop dropped him from third to sixth, placing his podium prospects under significant pressure.

The race then moved back in Hamilton’s favour when both Mercedes cars encountered different issues that required additional pit stops. Hamilton also passed Max Verstappen, before the Red Bull driver’s late incident triggered a safety car.

Hamilton had been promoted to second, but dropped to third behind George Russell after deciding to pit under the late safety car. The race did not resume, leaving Hamilton third on the road, although that result remains uncertain while the yellow-flag investigation continues.

"Congrats to Charles," Hamilton told Sky F1. "He did a great job. All the magic I had on Friday just disappeared through the weekend."

"I’m probably going to get a penalty. The FIA often have to react... I went through a yellow flag and didn’t see it."

"So a jump start, yellow flag [infringement]. When it rains it pours."

Hamilton’s case now stands as one of the key post-race decisions from the British GP, with any additional penalty capable of changing the outcome of his home podium. From a race perspective, Silverstone also underlined how a start penalty, safety-car pit decision, and yellow-flag procedure can reshape the final classification.
