Operating as an invitational showcase where the organizing body holds full discretion over the grid, the historic twice-around-the-clock race will once again feature a maximum capacity of 62 cars on the starting grid, primarily reserved for full-season FIA WEC competitors.
The latest wave of invitations was finalized following the conclusion of the European Le Mans Series finale. Squad United Autosports secured their coveted entry by claiming the LMP2 championship crown, accompanied by series runner-up Forestier Racing by Panis and LMP2 Pro/Am champions Algarve Pro Racing. Additionally, CLX Motorsport earned their participation ticket through their success in the LMP3 division, with all four entry vouchers designated for the LMP2 category at La Sarthe.
Battle for supremacy in the grand touring ranks also yielded immediate rewards as TF Sport clinched an invitation after dominating the LMGT3 class in the ELMS championship. This guarantees their presence in the LMGT3 field, paving the way for a potential multi-car assault by American machinery as preparations ramp up for the prestigious French endurance marathon.
Across the Atlantic, the IMSA championship delivered crucial qualification pathways via special gentleman driver accolades. George Kurtz triumphed in the Jim Trueman Award for top LMP2 gentleman driver, while Orey Fidani claimed the Bob Akin Award for GT competitors. Because these particular tickets are tied directly to the drivers rather than the teams, both competitors hold the autonomy to partner with outfits of their choice for the 2027 grid.
With these early invitations already secured, the prospect of an extensive manufacturer presence is rapidly taking shape ahead of the upcoming winter break, where additional qualification slots will remain up for grabs during the Asian Le Mans Series campaign.
