A special tribute will highlight the weekend festivities commemorating 20 years since the death of nine-time Bathurst winner Peter Brock at the 2026 Bathurst 1000. Larry Perkins is set to chauffeur the prestigious trophy in the Perkins Engineering Holden Commodore that Brock famously drove during the 1991 racing season.
Brock's campaign aboard the Mobil VN marked the icon's emotional return to Holden and reunited a legendary duo that previously secured victory at the Great Race three times together with the Holden Dealer Team. Their partnership remains one of the most celebrated chapters in Australian touring car history.
The 1991 Commodore is currently owned by Kenny Habul and underwent a meticulous restoration process by Perkins Engineering, a workshop nowadays operated by Larry's son, Jack. The reunion of car, driver, and team adds deep historical significance to the Mount Panorama weekend.

Reflecting on their contrasting yet complementary personalities at HDT, where Perkins was contracted to prepare and co-drive the cars, he shared insights into their successful dynamic. When I joined I wanted to run the team my way, Perkins recalled during a broadcast tribute segment.
He let me run it my way and he went off doing his PR thing, which he was very good at. We had a nice clear line of responsibilities, Perkins added, noting that the strong funding generated by their success provided a well-earned competitive edge.
Beyond the trophy delivery, the spectacular pre-race show at Mount Panorama will feature a live performance of True Blue by John Williamson at the top of the mountain. The entire Great Race grid will also park their cars on the run to Skyline as part of recent pre-race customs.
Furthermore, Brock's 1972 Bathurst-winning Holden Torana and a 2025 Grove Racing Mustang will be showcased at the peak for a special television feature presented by Mark Larkham, ensuring a fitting celebration of touring car heritage.
