The Formula 1 weekend in Sepang brought a familiar headache for Lando Norris after securing seventh place on the starting grid. The British driver felt his qualifying effort was solid, yet a persistent straight-line speed deficit continuously drained valuable lap time from his machine.
This top-speed limitation left McLaren struggling to match the pace of their direct rivals on power-hungry sections. Compounding the issue, severe thermal tyre degradation across the abrasive Sepang asphalt forced the team to rethink their tyre management approach ahead of Sunday's Grand Prix.
"Every time I get a good exit, I'm just slower at the end of the straight," Norris admitted, expressing frustration over the persistent speed trap losses. Despite the performance ceiling, he anticipates that varying tyre strategies across the grid could inject unpredictable excitement into the race outcome.

Meanwhile, teammate Oscar Piastri slotted in just five milliseconds behind in a tightly contested Q3 session. Both drivers face an uphill battle to close the gap to the front-runners, with potential rain adding another layer of uncertainty to their race pace.
