Brodie Kostecki emerged as the fastest driver in the second practice session at Queensland Raceway, Ipswich, while Will Brown suffered another setback with his Triple Eight entry.
After Kai Allen topped the opening session, Kostecki from Dick Johnson Racing impressed in the second outing with a 1:08.7032s lap, two-tenths clear of Triple Eight's Broc Feeney.
Brown, running a spare chassis after earlier issues, reported a strange noise from the gearbox early in the session and pitted for diagnosis. "It feels like it's done a gearbox or something internal," he told the broadcast. "I did a downchange and it made a really bad noise. Like someone was under there with a hammer. It won't be good."

Practice 2 was also interrupted by incidents, including Jackson Walls beaching his Ford Mustang in the gravel and Aaron Seton locking up into Turn 3. Both brought out red flags.
With qualifying set for Saturday morning, the field looks closely matched. Kostecki is confident, while Brown faces an uphill battle with technical gremlins. Feeney's pace also positions him as a strong contender.
