Kimi Antonelli Hit by Bizarre Mercedes Failure

Kimi Antonelli suffered a major blow in his pursuit of victory at the 2026 British Grand Prix after his Mercedes developed an unusual failure at a crucial stage of the race.

Antonelli was running second and within five seconds of race leader Charles Leclerc when the issue appeared. At that point, he was on tyres that were 10 laps fresher, leaving him with a strategic opportunity to pressure Ferrari later in the race.

Antonelli's situation shifted slightly when a late safety car was deployed after Max Verstappen spun off in the closing stages. That neutralisation potentially gave him a route back towards the points after the earlier mechanical issue had damaged his race.
