Kimi Antonelli Admits Max Verstappen F1 Resurgence Is Very Scary
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Max Verstappen is too far back to mount a serious threat to Kimi Antonelli

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has openly admitted that it would be very scary if Max Verstappen was properly in Formula 1 title contention following dominant back-to-back victories for the Red Bull driver. The young Italian's remarks came in the wake of the reigning world champion's dominant performances in recent Grand Prix weekends.

Verstappen followed up a convincing first win of the season at the Bahrain Grand Prix by completing a clean sweep across the Singapore weekend. The four-time world champion took pole position for both the sprint race and the grand prix, converting each into victories in dominant fashion to collect maximum points for his team.

Despite this recent surge moving the Dutchman up to fourth place in the world championship standings, he remains 119 points adrift of Antonelli. The significant deficit means he is simply too far back to mount a genuine title fightback during the closing stages of the current Formula 1 season.

When asked by broadcasters if he is glad Verstappen was so far back in the points standings, Antonelli responded with a laugh. Yes, because it would be very scary, he stated, emphasizing the immense threat the Red Bull star poses when equipped with a race-winning car.

The 20-year-old Italian now stands on the verge of history as he aims to become F1's youngest-ever world champion. To clinch the coveted crown at the upcoming United States Grand Prix, he will need to win the race while his Mercedes team-mate George Russell finishes ninth or lower, and Ferrari rival Lewis Hamilton ends up fifth or worse.

All in all I feel like we are doing a great job, Antonelli added regarding his stellar championship campaign. At the end, you look at the season, and we have always been there fighting at the sharp end of the grid.

Obviously we have had a great car and now we are trying to understand this new package. I'm very proud of the team this weekend because we pushed through the difficulties and started to see life at the end of the tunnel, he concluded.
