Kai Allen Breaks Silence on Perth Tyre Pressure Saga

Kai Allen has finally spoken out about the tyre pressure saga overshadowing his impressive result at the Perth Super440. The Grove Racing youngster charged from the back of the grid—after a power steering failure in qualifying—to finish fifth in the third and final heat earlier this month.

The drama began when two of his tyres were found to be below the minimum limit of 16 psi on the grid before the race. Although a breach was established, Grove Racing successfully argued its way out of a penalty, at least initially.

In an unprecedented move, Supercars has appealed the Motorsport Australia stewards' decision to recognise the breach without penalty. A hearing is set for next Monday in Melbourne, leaving Allen's Sunday result under a cloud of uncertainty.

Speaking on the latest Drivers Only podcast, Allen admitted he had little knowledge of the technicalities but expressed disappointment that the case was reopened. "It's all up to the team. I've never touched a tyre gauge in my life, so I've got no idea how that works," he said.

"It's a bit disappointing that there was a decision made and then they're going back on it. I've got no idea what's happening obviously. I'll either be very happy or very disappointed, but we'll find out," added Kai Allen.

He also highlighted the fine margins in modern racing. "We're chasing such fine margins and everyone would be pushing the limits with everything. But I can't give you an answer. I'm letting the boys do their thing. At the end of the day it is what it is," said the driver tipped as a future star of the series.

Should Supercars successfully appeal, sanctions could range from loss of teams' championship points to disqualification from the race. The outcome will set a significant precedent for technical regulations in the Supercars Championship.
