Jorge Martin turns a new page in his career with Aprilia. On the Mig Babol podcast, the Spanish rider candidly discussed his injury recovery, his decision to stay with the team, and his fierce rivalry with Marco Bezzecchi. His story is not just about racing, but about rising from adversity.
Martin admitted he never expected to be this competitive this season. He underwent two surgeries early in the year, which forced him to miss several practice sessions. “Honestly, I didn't expect to be in this position. I started the season with two more operations. I wasn't ready for the test. I didn't think I'd be fighting,” he said. But gradually, he found his rhythm and is now back in the front group.
Martin's strong performance is down to the hard work of the Aprilia team who have supported him continuously. He also acknowledges that the competition this season is extremely tight, especially with Bezzecchi in top form. “Now I'm in a situation I will try to take advantage of. But yes, it's good because Marco is in an incredible moment of form. I think the three of us are a bit ahead of the others. But it will be a good fight until the end,” he added.
The most interesting moment of the podcast came when Martin talked about everything he has been through. He doesn't regret the tough times because he believes they made him who he is today. “I don't regret anything that happened because everything made me learn, everything made me grow. And surely, thanks to everything that happened, I am here today,” he stated.
One of the valuable lessons he learned is the importance of enjoying the present. “I learned to live in the moment, because you never know if tomorrow or Friday I might not be able to race. So I try to enjoy the present much more,” he explained. He also learned not to push beyond his limits. “Another thing I learned is not to do more than you can. Because often we riders try to do much more, even when you're really at the limit,” he added.
Martin also recalled the recovery process after his Qatar crash. At that time, he wasn't even sure if he could ride a MotoGP bike again. “After Qatar it was impossible, because I didn't know if I would ever race again,” he remembered. But thanks to determination and team support, he overcame that difficult period. “Even if it happens again, I know I am capable of repeating it,” he said confidently.
Regarding his relationship with Aprilia, Martin admitted there was tension. He wanted to leave the team but ultimately chose to stay. “Things were discussed, the relationship broke and then was rebuilt,” he confessed. Now he is fully focused on achieving the best results with Aprilia. “I want to win, that's my main goal,” he concluded.
