Jorge Martin is facing a major headache ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix main race as rear tyre overheating threatens his championship lead at Motegi.
The series leader saw his advantage at the top of the standings reduced to just seven points following a dramatic sprint race battle against fierce rival Marc Marquez.
Starting from pole position after breaking the lap record, Martin immediately lost the lead at the first corner to Marquez. Although he initially fought back, unexpected overheating issues on his soft rear tyre severely compromised his mid-race pace and allowed his rivals to capitalize.

Speaking to Crash.net, the Spanish rider admitted there was no warning sign of the tyre degradation throughout the weekend, leaving his team scrambling for solutions during warm-up to fend off Marquez on Sunday.
