Jorge Martin had to accept defeat after a fierce battle at the Japanese Grand Prix, despite launching brilliantly from pole position to control the early proceedings at Motegi.
The Spaniard initially kept his compatriot at bay, but superior pace soon told the story. A brilliant overtake at turn nine by Marc Marquez completely shifted the momentum, allowing the reigning champion to cruise unchallenged toward another crucial victory.
According to Crash.net, missing out on top spot hurts the championship standings, yet claiming Aprilia's historic first premier-class podium at this venue highlights massive progress for the Aprilia factory squad.
Reflecting on the race, Martin admitted that his rival proved virtually unbeatable despite pushing to the absolute limit. He noted small margins in performance across specific sectors that ultimately kept him from launching a successful counter-attack.
Attention now shifts to the upcoming round in Indonesia, where expectations are high that the RS-GP machinery will suit the layout better. That could provide the perfect stage for the championship leader to bounce right back.
