Isack Hadjar endured a drastically contrasting fortune compared to his Red Bull Racing garage stablemate during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. While his teammate successfully secured pole position for Sunday's main event, the young French driver suffered an absolute mechanical nightmare under the bright floodlights.
The string of disasters began when a terminal power unit failure forced him to retire early from Saturday's Sprint race. Milton Keynes mechanics completed an incredible, rushed effort to replace the essential engine components ahead of the evening qualifying session, but the hasty repairs simply failed to hold up under competitive stress on the track.
During the Q1 session, Hadjar reported over the team radio that his engine had shut down completely, forcing him to limp back to the pit lane. On a subsequent attempt to set a representative lap time, he lost all of his gears due to a secondary gearbox failure. Consequently, he failed to set a meaningful time and officially qualified at the very back of the grid.

Speaking to the media afterward, the furious driver made no effort to hide his frustration about wasting premium track time when he felt the car possessed the underlying pace to advance through the elimination rounds. He heavily lamented the unused soft tyres sitting idly in the garage while he remained sidelined due to reliability issues.
Given his position at the back of the grid, taking additional intentional penalties for brand-new mechanical components seems like a logical strategy. When questioned about adding a completely fresh power unit to his yearly pool, Hadjar fully endorsed the drastic move to ensure reliability moving forward.
