Max Verstappen is facing one of the biggest challenges of his motorsport career this weekend by competing in the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours with Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Verstappen’s debut in the legendary German endurance race has immediately become one of the biggest stories in international motorsport. The presence of the four-time Formula 1 world champion has even contributed to the first sold-out Nürburgring 24 Hours event in history.
Driving the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Verstappen Racing, the Dutchman quickly established himself among the frontrunners during the opening stages of the race. Despite several early incidents involving the team, the outfit remains firmly in contention for victory.

From a technical perspective, the Nürburgring 24 Hours is regarded as one of the most demanding races in world motorsport due to the 25-kilometre Nordschleife layout, constantly changing weather conditions, dense multi-class traffic, and difficult nighttime running.
Verstappen previously completed extensive preparation programmes at the Nordschleife, including GT3 testing and endurance simulation work, to accelerate his adaptation outside Formula 1.
This year’s event is expected to become even more challenging due to forecasts predicting rain and fog throughout much of the weekend. Tyre strategy, traffic management, and driver consistency are expected to become decisive factors.
For motorsport fans, Verstappen’s Nürburgring 24 Hours debut offers a rare opportunity to see the Red Bull driver competing in a completely different environment outside Formula 1.
