Honda is reportedly on the verge of finalizing an agreement with the Moto2 team MSi to nurture future MotoGP talent. Reports from Sky Italia indicate that negotiations between the Spanish squad and HRC have entered an advanced stage, with HRC aiming to secure riders ready for the premier class.
MSi, which clinched the 2024 Moto2 title with Ai Ogura, could become a key part of Honda's rider development program. It remains unclear whether this partnership would replace or complement the existing Honda Team Asia project. The most visible sign of any collaboration would be Honda branding appearing on MSi's bikes.
Furthermore, Sky's Rosario Triolo reports that HRC might also become involved in the team's rider contracts. Currently, Ivan Ortola sits fourth in the Moto2 standings for MSi, with two victories in the last four races. His teammate, Angel Piqueras, stepped up to Moto2 this season after finishing runner-up in Moto3 for MSi last year.
Should HRC form an alliance with MSi, Ortola and Piqueras would be in contention for a 2028 Honda MotoGP seat. Meanwhile, Johann Zarco's current HRC contract expires at the end of next year, opening the door for young talents.
This potential deal is seen as a strategic move by Honda to strengthen its rider pathway, given the intense competition in MotoGP. With MSi's proven ability to develop talent, this collaboration could build a strong foundation for Honda's future in the premier class.
