Lewis Hamilton has urged Ferrari to investigate the technical direction of rival Formula 1 teams after noticing significant front wing differences used by McLaren, Red Bull Racing, and Mercedes during the Miami Grand Prix 2026.

Ferrari introduced a substantial package of 11 upgrades in Miami, which Hamilton acknowledged delivered improvements. However, he suggested rival teams still made larger performance gains, particularly in aerodynamic efficiency and race pace consistency.

Technically, the front wing remains one of the most critical components under the current ground effect regulations because it controls airflow towards the floor and diffuser. Variations in design philosophy can significantly influence front-end stability, tyre management, and overall balance through different cornering phases.

“The team worked incredibly hard to bring these components, and there has been progress, but the others have also taken a step.”

“I heard McLaren’s upgrade delivered much more than they expected. That’s not how we experienced ours.”

Hamilton specifically pointed to the front wing concepts of rival teams, suggesting Ferrari may be missing a key aerodynamic solution that contributes to improved airflow management and drag efficiency.

“Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull are doing something different with the front wing compared to us.”

“We need to investigate that and see whether there is something we can improve.”

The comments underline Ferrari’s ongoing evaluation of the SF-26 development direction. While the latest upgrades have produced progress, the team still appears to trail its direct competitors in high-speed efficiency and overall race consistency.

Hamilton also hinted that Ferrari’s front wing design visually differs from other leading teams. In modern Formula 1, small aerodynamic details can generate major gains when combined with suspension setup and ride-height management.

With the Canadian Grand Prix next on the schedule, Ferrari’s investigation into rival aerodynamic concepts is expected to become a key part of its continued development programme. Understanding competitor advantages could prove decisive in Ferrari’s attempt to close the performance gap at the front of the field.
