Lewis Hamilton revealed that Ferrari conducted a day full of experiments at Sepang Circuit, Malaysia, ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix. Although not the fastest—that honor went to teammate Charles Leclerc—Hamilton stressed that the gap to the frontrunners is not large.
“Overall it was a busy day, with very little grip on track,” Hamilton said. “Finding the right balance wasn’t easy, but I think it was a common theme for everyone. Over the two sessions, we explored a couple of different setup directions and now our focus will be on analyzing the data to find the best compromise.”
Hamilton added that Ferrari shouldn’t panic. “We don’t seem too far from the pace of the best, but we know there’s still work to do to get the car performing at its best in tomorrow’s qualifying.”

This statement is a positive signal for Ferrari, who are fighting to regain form in the middle part of the season. With Leclerc topping the timesheets, the Maranello-based team showed that their upgrade package is starting to pay off, though there is still room for improvement.
Sepang is known as a circuit that demands aerodynamic and mechanical balance. Low grip on Friday often makes it difficult for teams to gather clean data. However, for Hamilton, this is where his experience and analytical skills are put to the test.
Heading into qualifying and the race, all eyes will be on how Ferrari converts Friday’s experiments into tangible results. If Hamilton is right, the battle at the front could be tighter than expected.
