The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FREC) has published a comprehensive 10-race calendar for the 2027 season, featuring thrilling new venues and a high-profile return to the Formula 1 support bill. As exclusively revealed by Formula Scout, the championship welcomes both Algarve International Circuit and Silverstone to its schedule for the very first time.
The upcoming campaign will kick off at the sweeping Algarve circuit near Portimao in southern Portugal on April 9-11, marking the second year of the series operating as an official FIA championship. Following the season opener, the championship will head to the Red Bull Ring two weeks later before making its historic maiden voyage to Britain over the weekend of May 14-16 to race at Silverstone alongside the International GT Open package.
Undoubtedly, the crown jewel of the 2027 calendar is FREC's scheduled appearance on the F1 support card at the Hungaroring from July 30 to August 1. This will represent the series' first appearance on an F1 support bill since Monaco in 2022, although final confirmation of the event remains subject to contractual agreement. The unique weekend format at Budapest will likely see a shift in qualifying timings to Friday in order to seamlessly integrate with the demanding scheduling requirements of Formula 1.

In a notable sporting shift, the championship will revert to its traditional format consisting of two races per weekend, abandoning the experimental reverse-grid third race format utilized at four events in 2026. Apart from the Hungarian round, every weekend will maintain the standard structure featuring free practice on Friday, followed by dedicated qualifying sessions and races on both Saturday and Sunday.
The rest of the season features a robust mix of classic European venues including Spa-Francorchamps, Paul Ricard, Zandvoort, Imola, and Monza, before the season finale takes place at Barcelona on October 8-10. FIA Single-Seater Commission President Emanuele Pirro welcomed the revised calendar, praising the diverse track selection designed to nurture the next generation of motorsport talent.
