Adrien Fourmaux delivered a stunning performance on day two of Rally Paraguay, setting five fastest times across the day's nine stages. The Frenchman started Saturday almost a minute behind third-placed Elfyn Evans, but now trails by just 3.3 seconds heading into the final day.
Fourmaux was naturally pleased with his charge, especially given the caliber of his rival. "It's pretty nice to make up 50 seconds on the championship leader in one day," he said. "I made just one mistake when I lost concentration."
The day was expected to be the rally's toughest due to possible heavy rain, but in the end, the weather stayed dry. Despite that, changes made to the car with rain in mind proved spot on. "We have a very good car for these conditions, and the set-up helped me a lot," Fourmaux revealed.
Cooler temperatures and shorter stages also played into his hands, making tire management easier. With five stages remaining on Sunday, the target is clear: "Third place or even better. Anything is possible right up to the finish."
Fourmaux hopes for clear, dry conditions to enjoy the fight, as rain could bring unpredictable grip. The stage is set for a thrilling finale in the WRC season.
