Formula 1 Pledges £2.4M Engineering Scholarship Extension Through 2029

Formula 1 has officially announced a massive £2.4 million investment to extend its prestigious Engineering Scholarship programme through the 2028/29 academic years, alongside the publication of its very first sport-wide Social Impact Report. This milestone financial commitment aims to dismantle systemic barriers and accelerate motorsport accessibility for underrepresented groups globally.

According to the newly released findings covering initiatives throughout 2025, over 500,000 young people spanning 71 countries have directly benefited from diverse education, STEM, and community outreach programmes. The comprehensive data aggregates contributions from Formula 1, the FIA, all 10 competing constructor teams, and 24 race promoters.

The equality framework builds extensively upon foundational recommendations established by the Hamilton Commission, which was originally launched back in 2021 by seven-time F1 drivers' champion Lewis Hamilton and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Since its inception, the initiative has successfully backed 48 students by fully covering tuition fees, living expenses, and securing hands-on placements within F1 team facilities.
