Ferrari will use its ADUO-permitted engine upgrade for the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix, alongside a fresh batch of aerodynamic updates and track-specific parts as it targets glory at its home round. The decision comes after the FIA confirmed Ferrari is over 4% behind the ADUO benchmark, allowing the team two performance upgrades this season.
The Italian squad, led by engine chief Enrico Gualtieri, has given the green light to introduce the new power unit after repeated bench tests confirmed its reliability. The upgraded engine, designated 067/7, features a revised combustion chamber and turbocharger, with an expected gain of around 15 horsepower, which should halve the deficit to the Mercedes unit, widely regarded as the best all-round package.
Additional performance is expected from new fuel developed by Shell. Ferrari's engineers are targeting peak power and a different torque delivery at Monza, aiming for a strong result in front of an expectant home crowd. The team will also bring a new, more aerodynamically efficient version of the Macarena rear wing, which has not been used previously, along with a blown exhaust that may be tweaked to reduce drag further.
Ferrari will also run a special livery to celebrate Michael Schumacher's success with the team. The Scuderia is targeting the Italian GP as the place to kickstart its title charge after failing to reach the podium in the last two rounds. Ferrari has received a boost from Mercedes, which has confirmed that Kimi Antonelli will serve a back-of-the-grid penalty for a full power unit change, while George Russell is not expected to take a penalty, with Baku considered a possibility.
Monza has not been a happy hunting ground for Ferrari in recent years, with just three wins in the last 19 Italian GPs. However, Ferrari is aware it must strike back, having been outscored by McLaren in the last two rounds and slipped to 87 points behind Mercedes in the constructors' championship. With these upgrades, Ferrari aims to close the gap and deliver a competitive performance at Monza.
