Ferrari has once again publicly backed Frederic Vasseur as team principal. In a message to the media, Maria Conti, head of communications at Maranello, stated that the top management fully believes in Vasseur's work and the people he has chosen. The move aims to quell speculation about the Frenchman's future.
However, for pundits and fans, this is nothing new. History shows that Ferrari has issued votes of confidence to team principals before, only to part ways shortly after. This has sparked discussions on social media, with many recalling similar patterns with Maurizio Arrivabene and Mattia Binotto.
The Arrivabene and Binotto Precedents
On September 8, 2018, John Elkann, then newly appointed Ferrari president, publicly dismissed doubts about Maurizio Arrivabene. Elkann expressed support for Arrivabene, the drivers, and the entire staff. Yet just 121 days later, on January 7, 2019, Ferrari announced Arrivabene's departure, replaced by Mattia Binotto.
Binotto experienced something similar. On September 10, 2022, Elkann gave his backing in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, saying that trusting Binotto had paid off. But on November 15, 2022, rumors about his future surfaced. Ferrari denied them via Twitter, calling the reports unfounded. Only 14 days later, on November 29, 2022, Ferrari announced it had accepted Binotto's resignation effective December 31. Since 2023, the Vasseur era began.
