Raul Fernandez secured his first-ever MotoGP pole position at the Indonesian Grand Prix, delivering a stellar performance at the Mandalika Circuit while major title contenders struggled to make an impact. Despite Aprilia showing immense potential throughout the weekend, it was the Trackhouse rider who mastered the conditions to claim top spot, leaving factory heavyweights scrambling behind him in a dramatic qualifying session.
Marco Bezzecchi capitalized on the machinery to lock out a 1-2 start for Aprilia by grabbing second on the grid. The Italian rider looked firmly on course to challenge for pole position itself, only to be forced to abort his flying lap due to late-session yellow flags at the final corner. The cautions were deployed following a crash by Q1 pacesetter and standout weekend performer Fermin Aldeguer, halting what could have been a stunning lap.
Even rival manufacturer Ducati had anticipated Aprilia running away with proceedings at Mandalika, and while the Noale factory secured a strong 1-2 on the grid, its broader ambitions were dented earlier. Ai Ogura endured a messy Friday that relegated him to the Q1 scrap, where the Japanese rookie crashed once more before salvaging a spot in the pole shootout. Ogura ultimately converted that recovery into seventh on the grid for the main races.

At the sharp end of the grid, title contenders Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin failed to pose a genuine threat to the pole position battle. Martin qualified fifth, potentially hindered by traffic along the way as Marquez attempted to tow behind him, with both riders getting held up by Fernandez during their preparation laps. Capitalizing on the chaos, VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio pulled off the surprise of Q2 by launching his Ducati onto the front row in third position ahead of Marquez.
The earlier Q1 session was absolute carnage, heavily punctuated by multiple crashes across the field. Johann Zarco suffered two separate falls before even setting a timed lap, the second of which involved a simultaneous collision with Jack Miller. Miller's Pramac Yamaha teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu also endured a severe crash in the preceding practice session, temporarily dislocating his shoulder before popping it back into place and bravely returning to action. Further falls during Q1 marred the sessions for Diogo Moreira, Enea Bastianini, and Ogura.
