When the second main race got underway at 15:30 local time, the skies above the Circuito do Estoril had cleared up with temperatures hovering around a comfortable 24 degrees Celsius. A total of 36.257 passionate fans packed the grandstands to witness the final showdown consisting of 21 demanding laps around the iconic venue.
The championship landscape heading into this final heat was already decided, as Nicolo Bulega had previously secured the 2026 Superbike world title in Cremona. Having already broken the win record with his 28th victory of the season during the Superpole Race, the Aruba.it Ducati star aimed to surpass Jonathan Rea historic points benchmark set back in 2019.
The starting grid featured an all-Ducati front row composed of Bulega, Iker Lecuona, and Alberto Surra, while BMW hopeful Miguel Oliveira lined up fourth on the grid alongside Alvaro Bautista and Axel Bassani in the chasing packs.
Bulega seized the holeshot when the lights went out, though Lecuona lunged up the inside at Turn 1 before the newly crowned Italian champion reclaimed his rightful spot at the front. Drama struck Oliveira early on as the BMW rider dropped down into the thick midfield traffic and fell back to thirteenth place.
As the race reached its halfway mark, Bulega and Lecuona pulled clear of the chasing pack with unmatched pace, leaving the rest of the field struggling to match their lap times. Intense battles unfolded further down the order as Bautista pressured Surra for the final podium spot, while a costly braking error dropped Oliveira down to eleventh position.
