Enea Bastianini is now free to complete an expected move to Trackhouse Racing and Aprilia for the 2027 MotoGP season. The situation follows the reported expiry of KTM’s deadline to activate its option on the Italian rider’s contract.

Bastianini joined KTM through Tech3 Racing alongside Maverick Vinales on a two-year agreement containing an option for the following season. According to Sky Italia, KTM did not activate that clause before the deadline, leaving Bastianini free to determine his next team.

Bastianini is believed to have agreed terms with Trackhouse some time ago, although no official announcement was included in the available material. If completed, the transfer would make Trackhouse his fifth premier-class team and Aprilia the third manufacturer of his MotoGP career.

The 2020 Moto2 world champion previously secured seven grand prix victories on Ducati machinery. Since moving to KTM, he has taken a podium in Catalunya and delivered Tech3’s only rostrum result of the current season by finishing third in the COTA Sprint.

At Trackhouse, Bastianini is expected to partner Raul Fernandez. He would replace Ai Ogura, who has been confirmed for a move to the factory Yamaha team in 2027.

The Aprilia switch would place Bastianini in a new technical environment after two seasons within the KTM project. His experience of both Ducati and KTM machinery could also provide Trackhouse with an additional development reference as MotoGP enters its new 850cc regulation era.

Vinales’ future, by contrast, remains uncertain. The Spaniard had previously appeared likely to stay within the KTM structure, but he is still recovering from shoulder injuries and has stated that the team’s contract option prevented him from accepting offers elsewhere.

KTM could therefore field four new riders in 2027. Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio have been linked with the factory team, while Luca Marini has emerged as a Tech3 candidate alongside a Moto2 rookie.

The expiry of KTM’s option represents an important development in the rider market because it removes the principal contractual obstacle facing Bastianini. A Trackhouse announcement is now the next expected step, while the move also increases the possibility of a complete restructuring of KTM’s MotoGP line-up for 2027.
