Amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region involving the United States and Iran, Stefano Domenicali has firmly confirmed that Formula 1 will proceed with its scheduled season finale. Imola remains nothing more than a backup plan as the sport commits fully to its original calendar.
Speaking during practice sessions in Bahrain, the F1 chief executive stressed that the decision to race in the Middle East was reached following rigorous risk assessments and necessary security assurances. This official stance effectively puts an end to weeks of paddock speculation regarding potential venue shifts.
However, this unwavering approach is bound to spark internal debates among competitors. Key figures on the grid, with Max Verstappen leading the vocal minority, have previously expressed reluctance about traveling to regions directly impacted by active military friction and security threats.
The resolve to visit Qatar and Abu Dhabi highlights the championship's deep reliance on its Gulf partners, even as safety discussions loom large. As the paddock prepares for the final stretch, the spotlight will extend far beyond the asphalt battles.
