Supercars joker David Reynolds and co-driver James Courtney generated major buzz ahead of the iconic Bathurst 1000 by paying tribute to legendary Australian touring car driver Peter Brock. Marking 20 years since Brock's passing, the Team 18 duo decided to resurrect one of the most bizarre and controversial chapters in motorsport history by running the infamous Brock Polarizer.

Back in the mid-1980s, Brock's insistence on fitting his HDT road cars with a small box containing crystals, magnets, and foil—believing it improved handling, performance, and fuel efficiency—cost him his highly lucrative business. Team 18 brought this piece of history back to life through a social media mock treasure hunt video where Reynolds and Courtney dug up the elusive device.

However, Reynolds revealed that acquiring an authentic Polarizer for the stunt was a massive mission in itself. Speaking to Speedcafe, he explained how the team started calling around everyone with connections to that specific era, only to find that original units were practically non-existent in their immediate circles, while online options came with exorbitant price tags or cheap knockoff alternatives.

The search even involved contacting Kenny Habul, who recently purchased the HDT brand, resulting in a small sponsorship but still no physical device. Salvation finally arrived through the son of Brock's former Holden Dealer Team stablemate and friend John Harvey, leading to a shady, tinfoil-wrapped handoff in Keilor to secure the historic item.

Now safely secured in the cool box tray on the passenger side of the #48 Camaro, the tiny Polarizer travels with Reynolds as he qualifies eighth on a grid where Camaros are setting a scorching pace. Heading into the grueling 1000-kilometer endurance classic, Reynolds remains confident in their race package, emphasizing that belief is a very powerful thing regardless of superstition.
