David Reynolds' future with Team 18 remains shrouded in uncertainty as the competitive Supercars season intensifies. The off-contract 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner faced a remarkably similar scenario last year before ultimately securing a contract extension in October ahead of the iconic endurance race.

The current predicament stems from earlier paddock movements when General Motors pushed to sign Grove Racing incumbent Matt Payne and install him at Team 18. Although Matt Payne ultimately committed himself to the Grove squad, the looming 2027 season has placed David Reynolds right back into familiar territory regarding his career trajectory.

On-track performance has done little to cement his standing within the team garage. David Reynolds has languished relative to his younger, less experienced teammate Anton De Pasquale. While Anton De Pasquale sits sixth in the standings with two race wins and five podiums, David Reynolds holds only one podium and sits 15th in the drivers' championship, currently outside of the Finals Series contention.

Addressing his unclear status within the team, David Reynolds admitted he remains in the dark about his immediate racing future. As reported by Speedcafe, he is taking a measured approach to the ongoing speculation. "I don't know," said David Reynolds of his predicament. "You guys usually tell me before I get told. My phone's on – no, not really – I don't know. I'm just taking every race by race and we'll see what happens. I'm always relaxed about everything and I'm always stressed about everything."

Whether David Reynolds stays or goes for another campaign remains undecided, with ongoing speculation suggesting Matt Payne could still land at Team 18 in 2028. However, Team 18 also has plenty of talented young drivers waiting in the wings to evaluate, including Enduro Cup wildcard Bayley Hall and stand-in co-driver Harri Jones.
