Ahead of the crucial Gold Coast 500 event, Chaz Mostert is forced to deploy a spare chassis following a heavy accident in the closing stages of the prestigious Bathurst 1000 endurance race.

The Toyota machine, designated as WR 032, which Mostert had raced since the start of the 2026 season, suffered severe structural damage during the crash. The incident occurred when Mostert clipped the inside wall at Forrest's Elbow, ricocheting the car directly into the outside fence in a manner identical to the crash endured by teammate Ryan Wood during practice.

The team officially confirmed this morning that its spare chassis, WR 029, will be recalled for active duty at the upcoming Gold Coast street circuit. WR 029 was originally debuted by Mostert as a Ford Mustang at the start of the 2025 campaign, before being sidelined ahead of the Townsville 500 and subsequently converted into a Supra.

Supercars' Gen3 regulations rely on common chassis and shared components, leaving only the bodywork and engines specific to each manufacturer. Manufacturer swaps have been permissible since the Car of the Future rulebook was introduced in 2013, though such conversions remain rare due to the extensive engineering work involved.

Historical precedents in the category include Kelly Racing campaigning a chassis as both a Nissan Altima and a Ford Mustang, alongside similar efforts from Erebus Motorsport. With the recalled chassis now primed for action, the team aims to navigate the technical challenges and secure strong results this weekend.
