While the MotoGP paddock was buzzing with Fermin Aldeguer's VR46 deal being made official on Wednesday, another name was busy working at the Misano circuit. Nicolo Bulega, the WorldSBK star expected to become Aldeguer's team-mate at Valentino Rossi's squad in 2027, was busy testing Ducati's 850cc prototype.
Bulega carried out the development work alone after Michele Pirro suffered an injury. According to GPOne.com, the Italian focused on aerodynamic comparison work. This outing is reportedly his final test before officially stepping up to MotoGP with VR46 at the Valencia test.
The news comes amid Bulega's dominance in WorldSBK. He has been beaten only once so far in the 2026 season. His lead in the standings is a massive 133 points over Ducati team-mate Iker Lecuona, the only rider to have defeated him so far. Next weekend, Bulega returns to WorldSBK action at Magny-Cours with high confidence.
Meanwhile, current MotoGP race riders will get their next chance to try the 850cc/Pirelli machines after September's Red Bull Ring round. Previously, Aldeguer and Marc Marquez were chosen to represent Ducati during the debut Brno test in June.
Interestingly, the Misano MotoGP round takes place in just two weeks. As the home event for VR46 and Ducati, it could be the perfect place to confirm Bulega's 2027 seat, which is now officially the last remaining Desmosedici ride. If confirmed, it would close the puzzle of the Borgo Panigale factory's rider lineup for next season.
