Absolute dominance was once again displayed by star rider Nicolo Bulega during the Tissot Superpole Race at the Circuito Estoril on Sunday morning. Starting the ten-lap sprint from pole position, the Italian ace secured a sensational victory while setting a brand-new record that has never been achieved by any rider before in the production-based world championship.

Despite showing remarkable pace throughout the weekend, Bulega temporarily lost the lead in the opening stages of the race. It was his Aruba.it Racing – Ducati teammate, Iker Lecuona, who surprisingly made a brilliant start and managed to control the front of the field for the first two laps. Tension immediately filled the air at the sharp end of the grid as the factory Ducati stablemates battled fiercely for supremacy.

Entering the third lap, Bulega found the ideal opening to reclaim the lead from Lecuona. Utilizing incredible race pace, the reigning world champion immediately pulled away and established a comfortable gap. Not only did he take the chequered flag first, but he also clocked a blistering new lap record of 1’34.525 on lap four, marking his 28th victory of the current campaign.

An intense battle unfolded further down the order for the final steps of the podium. Alberto Surra of Motocorsa Racing put on an impressive display to claim third place, successfully holding off a charging Miguel Oliveira who finished fourth. Meanwhile, experienced Spanish contender Alvaro Bautista delivered a stellar recovery drive, climbing from twelfth on the starting grid up to fifth position at the finish.

On the other hand, misfortune struck other competitors as Yari Montella suffered a crash following an early penalty, while Andrea Locatelli became the sole retirement after sliding out at turn seven. Dutch representative Twan Smits concluded his race in 21st place. With another maximum points haul, Bulega further solidifies his championship lead with 639 points.
