Following consecutive World Championship titles secured with Toprak Razgatlioglu through the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the German manufacturer has encountered a challenging campaign in the 2026 WorldSBK championship.
The departure of the Turkish star to the MotoGP paddock forced the Munich-based marque to completely restructure their racing project in order to remain competitive against strong rival factories.
To tackle the new era, BMW signed experienced campaigners Miguel Oliveira and Danilo Petrucci, though their progress has been hindered by four third-place finishes and lengthy injury layoffs for both riders during the season.

Adding to their woes, the loss of the Bonovo squad means the manufacturer is now exclusively represented by two factory machines on the grid, completely lacking a satellite team to gather crucial additional telemetry data.
Motorsport Director Sven Blusch openly admitted that BMW is currently navigating massive operational challenges as part of their revised motorsport strategy for the upcoming years.
“We opted for a long-term plan in the Superbike World Championship this year,” Blusch explained to Speedweek, emphasizing that they simply did not have enough preparation time to field more than two bikes on the grid.
Blusch pointed out that convincing a prospective squad to switch manufacturers requires offering a solid three-year collaborative commitment, which is difficult to arrange without prior long-term structural planning.
“If you talk to a team and cannot offer them the prospect of working with a manufacturer for the next three years, it is not easy to convince them to make the switch,” Blusch stated regarding the complexities of expansion.
With split resources dedicated toward the Endurance World Championship and customer racing programs, expanding capacity to support a satellite operation for the upcoming season has not been feasible.
