Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi has thrown down the gauntlet at MotorLand Aragon, topping MotoGP Practice on Friday with a lap of 1:45.455s. The Italian rider snatched the top spot in the dying moments, putting an end to Marc Marquez's dominance that had lasted for most of the session.
Marquez looked in control from the outset, setting a searing pace. But Bezzecchi kept the pressure on, and when it mattered most, he delivered. Alex Marquez, riding for Gresini Ducati, was just 0.010s adrift in second, with Marc Marquez a further 0.028s behind in third. The top three are separated by less than four hundredths of a second, setting the stage for a thrilling qualifying.
Fabio Di Giannantonio recovered from an early crash to take fourth, while Fermin Aldeguer rounded out the top five. Raul Fernandez was sixth, just ahead of championship leader Jorge Martin in seventh. Pedro Acosta, Franco Morbidelli, and a returning Johann Zarco completed the top ten, with Zarco securing a direct Q2 spot on his comeback.
It was a day to forget for Francesco Bagnaia, who could only manage 13th. Fabio Quartararo and Joan Mir followed in 14th and 15th, while Alex Rins, Enea Bastianini, and Brad Binder struggled further down the order. Jack Miller edged out stand-in rider Pol Espargaro for 19th, and Toprak Razgatlioglu was 21st on his Pramac debut, with Lorenzo Savadori bringing up the rear.
The result sends a clear message: Aprilia is a genuine contender, and Bezzecchi is ready to fight at the front. But with Ducati's trio of riders in the top five, the battle for supremacy is far from over. Bagnaia, in particular, faces mounting pressure to close the gap to Martin in the standings.
With qualifying looming, expectations are high for a nail-biting showdown. Practice has shown that every thousandth of a second counts, and the margins at Aragon could decide the fate of the championship.
