In an extraordinary display of demand, all 3000 campsites for the Bathurst 12 Hour have sold out within seven weeks of going on sale. The sites, located across the paddock and the Reid and McPhillamy Park grounds, were snapped up by eager fans, prompting organisers to open expressions of interest for those who missed out.

Traditionally, only those areas are opened for the 12 Hour due to smaller crowd numbers compared to the Bathurst 1000. However, the unprecedented speed of sales has forced a rethink. If enough interest is registered, additional campsites could be opened to accommodate the surge in demand.

Event director Shane Rudzis expressed his excitement: "Camping has become a cherished tradition of the Meguiar's Bathurst 12 Hour as fans come from across Australia – and some from even further abroad – to experience the event atmosphere first hand. We are working to identify opportunities to expand our camping offering further for 2027 and if the demand is there, we'll open more space."

Rudzis added that the growing demand for camping at Australia's International enduro is hugely exciting. "It's an intrinsic part of the event's culture and history and delivers the atmosphere it is famous for," he said.

While opening more campsites seems like a straightforward solution, organisers must carefully consider logistics, safety, and comfort to ensure a positive experience for all campers. The expressions of interest, which opened today, will help gauge whether expansion is viable.

Meanwhile, entries for the 2027 Meguiar's Bathurst 12 Hour officially open today. Teams and drivers looking to compete in one of the world's most prestigious endurance races should act quickly to secure their spot. With Bathurst's global reputation, next year's event promises to be even more competitive.

The camping sell-out is a positive sign for the popularity of endurance racing in Australia. If the trend continues, the Bathurst 12 Hour will undoubtedly grow further and attract even more fans from around the world.
