Enea Bastianini has strongly criticized the final-lap penalty he received during the Japanese Grand Prix sprint race. The track limits infringement cost him a crucial podium finish at Motegi following an intense late-race battle.
Starting from seventh on the grid, the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider fought his way through the field. In the closing stages, he capitalized on severe rear tyre degradation faced by Jorge Martin to contend for the podium positions.
However, drama struck at Turn 10 when both contenders ran wide and touched the green painted area beyond the white line. Current MotoGP regulations dictate that any track limits infraction on the final lap results in an automatic one-position drop.

Bastianini argued that the sanction was entirely unfair because he gained zero advantage from the mistake. He noted that the wide exit actually caused him to lose ground and slipstream momentum relative to his rival.
Meanwhile, championship leader Martin accepted responsibility for the error while admitting frustration at himself for squandering vital points to title contender Marc Marquez. The penalties ultimately promoted Diogo Moreira to an unexpected podium spot.
