The Japanese Grand Prix weekend at Motegi turned into a nightmare for Pecco Bagnaia. The reigning champion's struggles with Ducati deepened after missing out on Q2, starting down in 13th place, and ultimately being forced to retire early due to extreme rear tyre degradation.
A persistent lack of rear grip has plagued his entire weekend, compromising both braking stability and acceleration out of the corners. Despite pushing to the limit during qualifying, Bagnaia's final push fell short as he slid off track.
Starting far back on the grid, early optimism flickered as he gained positions following incidents ahead, putting a points finish within reach. However, violent vibrations and a total loss of feeling from the rear compound quickly ended those aspirations.

According to Motosan.es, Bagnaia pointed out that insufficient baseline grip caused excessive wheelspin and overheating, leading to rapid tyre failure. While title contender Jorge Martin also faced tyre wear issues, Bagnaia emphasized that his woes stemmed primarily from rear traction deficits.
