MotorLand Aragon is set to host a fierce battle in the 2026 MotoGP qualifying session. Marco Bezzecchi arrives as the fastest rider in the circuit's history, having broken the outright lap record on Friday. However, his slim 0.010-second advantage over Alex Marquez makes him aware that his biggest rival, Marc Marquez, still has more to give.
Marc Marquez himself finished free practice in third place, 0.038 seconds behind Bezzecchi. After the session, the eight-time world champion insisted he was in 'attack mode'. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez felt comfortable with his performance over three-quarters of the lap but admitted he was losing time in the final sector, especially compared to the agile Aprilias in long corners.
Behind the leading trio, Fabio Di Giannantonio sits in fourth place, a quarter of a second adrift. Fermin Aldeguer and Raul Fernandez also dipped into the 1m45s bracket, showing the tight competition at the front.
One of the notable highlights came from Johann Zarco. Returning from injury, the Honda rider managed to secure a Q2 spot—the only Honda rider to do so—after finishing tenth on his first day. His team manager, Lucio Cecchinello, praised Zarco's performance as proof of what humans can achieve with the right motivation.
Aprilia's speed at Aragon is not surprising in theory, but Jorge Martin admitted to being taken aback by the RS-GP's performance at a track that has been one of its weakest. On the other hand, KTM, usually strong at Aragon, struggled. Pedro Acosta felt that a change in tyre allocation compared to last year affected his front-end confidence.
Fabio Quartararo, despite being the fastest Yamaha rider, ended Friday on a pessimistic note. He felt he could neither push for a single fast lap nor maintain consistency over multiple laps. Now, all eyes are on the qualifying session scheduled for 10:50 local time. Will Bezzecchi hold onto his record, or will the Marquez brothers snatch pole?
