Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola has revealed that the manufacturer "pushed for changes" after a "clear safety issue" emerged with the rear tyres during the Motegi MotoGP Sprint race.
Title leader Jorge Martin was among the riders worst affected by blistering on the soft rear compound, with flying tyre debris even damaging the rear wing of his RS-GP machine. Meanwhile, Ducati rider Pecco Bagnaia was forced to retire one lap early due to the escalating tyre degradation.
Rivola pointed out that even tyres without visible external damage were later found to have dangerous blisters forming internally when cut open. That alarming discovery included the medium rear used by Marco Bezzecchi, while Yamaha's Jack Miller had also reported heavy visible blistering on the same compound.

"It was clear that there was a safety issue here," Rivola told Sky Italia, emphasizing the unpredictable dangers of running double the race distance on tyres with compromised structural integrity.
Thanks to Aprilia's persistent stance, Michelin ultimately withdrew the soft rear compound and recommended the reinforced hard tyre, ensuring a safe conclusion to the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
