David Almansa made sure he was the fastest rider on the opening day of Moto3 at MotorLand Aragon on Friday (19/6/2026). The Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider topped both free practice and the practice session, securing a direct ticket to Q2 for the Aragon Grand Prix.
Almansa, who was also fastest in FP1, returned to the track in the final five minutes to lower his best lap to 1:57.473. However, his run was not smooth afterward—he was hampered by traffic and aborted a lap that could have been quicker than Casey O'Gorman's.
Finnish rookie Rico Salmela was the surprise of the day, taking second place for Red Bull KTM Tech3, just 0.079s behind. This result also pushed his teammate Valentin Perrone down to third.
Adrian Fernandez was the best Honda rider in fourth for Leopard Racing, while Alvaro Carpe completed the top five for Red Bull KTM Ajo. Both were the last riders within half a second of the best time.
Casey O'Gorman finished sixth for SIC58 Squadra Corse, followed by Jesus Rios from Snipers in seventh. Championship leader Maximo Quiles had to settle for eighth, also being the top Aspar rider. Matteo Bertelle and Guido Pini recorded identical times, but Bertelle was placed ahead due to a faster second-best lap, taking ninth, with Pini completing the top ten.
Joel Kelso was down in 21st at one point but managed to climb to 13th at the end of the session to secure a Q2 spot. Hakim Danish also found himself in the danger zone but was lucky to stay in after Scott Ogden failed to improve his time. Ogden, who was on pole at Silverstone, had to settle for 15th.
The session also saw incidents. Brian Uriarte, still sore after a crash in FP1, could only manage 17th. Ryusei Yamanaka failed to improve after running wide at Turn 15, and Cormac Buchanan suffered a huge crash at Turn 17, which sent him airborne. He had to settle for last place.
