Alex Marquez closed Friday practice at the Aragon MotoGP with a razor-thin margin behind pace-setter Marco Bezzecchi. The Gresini Ducati rider was just 0.010s adrift, proving Motorland Aragon could be a hotbed of tight battles in qualifying and the sprint.
Throughout Friday's session, the top three riders—Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez, and Marc Marquez—all dipped under the previous lap record held by Marc Marquez. Bezzecchi's 1:45.455 was the fastest, while Alex had to settle for second with a gap that was almost invisible.
Alex admitted a slight front-tyre issue cost him time in the braking zones. "I'm still losing a bit on the front, especially on entry and braking. But we made an important step in the afternoon, and I feel closer to Marc and Bezzecchi," he said after the session.
Interestingly, Alex wasn't surprised by the close competition. He sees a big opportunity to be quick in qualifying due to lower track temperatures on Saturday morning. "I think Marc hasn't shown his full potential because he didn't use a second soft tyre. Tomorrow will be a very fast Q2," he added.
Alex's target for the weekend is clear: take pole and win the sprint. "The goal tomorrow is pole and win the sprint," he stated confidently. With improving performance, Gresini Racing has reason to be optimistic.
