Alex Marquez must serve a double long-lap penalty during the main Japanese Grand Prix after being penalised for triggering a multi-bike accident. The stewards' panel, led by Simon Crafar, issued the sanction following a chaotic opening lap incident at the Motegi circuit.
The crash unfolded as the Gresini Ducati rider attempted an overtake on Fabio Di Giannantonio for sixth place coming into Turn 3. Complications arose when Pedro Acosta cut back underneath after being forced wide, leaving Marquez with severely limited space to navigate the tight corner.
Losing the front end while desperately trying to shed speed, Marquez collided with Acosta before his sliding machine subsequently collected Di Giannantonio on the outside. The unfortunate tangle instantly eliminated both riders from a promising points-scoring position in the sprint.

Despite this being his first major disciplinary infraction of the season, the stewards maintained a strict stance, handing down a penalty comparable to previous sanctions given to Jorge Martin and Johann Zarco for lap-one pile-ups. The restriction will heavily compromise his race progression from fifth on the grid.
Reflecting on the incident, Acosta admitted that while such racing incidents happen, the missed opportunity to secure a podium finish was a major setback. The lost points also hinder his ongoing campaign trajectory within the premier class standings.
