Aldeguer Ready for MotoGP Comeback at Aragon After Injury

Fermin Aldeguer is finally ready to return to the track. The young Gresini Racing rider will compete at the Aragon GP this weekend after a long recovery from a back injury. This news is certainly a breath of fresh air for the team and his fans who have been waiting for his return since his absence in June.

Aldeguer suffered a fracture to the T7 vertebra after a heavy crash in FP2 at the Dutch MotoGP in Assen. Since then, the rider from Murcia has been away from competition, focusing on recovery. However, after a long rehabilitation process, he finally got the green light to race again at MotorLand Aragon, a circuit he knows well.

Earlier, Gresini had hinted that Aldeguer would return at the British GP, with Iker Lecuona filling in. But Lecuona knew it might be his last time replacing Aldeguer. And sure enough, Aldeguer was back on a bike a few days ago at Misano during a Dainese event, which was also attended by Valentino Rossi and his racing Academy members.

In that 'Project Apex 2026' session, Aldeguer rode a Ducati Panigale V4 with Gresini livery. He impressed even on used tires, posting lap times faster than some Rossi Academy riders. The presence of Michele Masini, Gresini's sporting director, and some of his mechanics at Misano showed how seriously the team is monitoring his progress.

Now, after physical tests and awaiting medical clearance on Thursday, Aldeguer is set to race at the Aragon GP. This will be an emotional moment, not just because of the comeback, but also because he races in front of his home crowd. If all goes well, we can expect a strong performance from him like before the injury.

Impact and Expectations for Gresini

Aldeguer's return is a morale boost for Gresini Racing. The Italian team can now rely on their main rider duo to compete in the midfield. With an impressive showing at Misano, Aldeguer has shown he hasn't lost his touch. Aragon could be the stage to prove he's a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season.

On the other hand, Aldeguer's return adds more competition in the MotoGP class. Several young riders are starting to show their potential, and Aldeguer's presence will make the grid even more exciting. Especially since he's racing at home, which often provides extra motivation. All eyes will be on him when the lights go out.
