Six years after capturing his lightweight class world title, Albert Arenas has officially climbed back to the absolute summit of global motorcycle racing by securing the 2026 World Supersport Championship crown.

The Spanish rider spent years developing his craft on prototype machinery, competing in Moto3 between 2012 and 2020 with five seasons in the premier MotoGP paddock. Following his graduation to Moto2, the 29-year-old made the bold decision ahead of the 2026 campaign to switch paddocks entirely and join the newly formed AS Racing team in the WorldSSP series.

Transitioning to the Yamaha R9 platform and Pirelli tires proved remarkably smooth for the Spaniard. He immediately showcased his race-winning potential by taking his maiden victory as early as the second round at Phillip Island, establishing a baseline of relentless consistency that would define his entire championship campaign.

Arriving at the penultimate round in Portugal holding a commanding 86-point advantage over his closest challenger Valentin Debise, the championship scenario was firmly in the hands of the Yamaha rider. Although a conservative Superpole session relegated him to ninth on the grid—his worst qualifying result of the year—it still placed him eight spots ahead of his title rival.

Displaying maturity and calculated race craft, Arenas avoided unnecessary risks during a fiercely contested race. By guiding his machine safely across the finish line in fourth place while his opponent fought through the traffic, he successfully wrapped up the championship title with three races still remaining on the calendar.

This magnificent achievement not only secured the rider's crown but also delivered the WorldSSP manufacturers' championship for Yamaha alongside the coveted teams' title for the AS Racing squad in a dream debut season.
