Ford's official announcement confirming its factory return to the World Rally Championship in 2028 alongside a brand-new car for 2029 immediately triggered intense paddock speculation. Adrien Fourmaux emerged as the primary focal point of these rumors, given his deep-rooted history with M-Sport prior to his stint with Hyundai.
The French driver's immediate future remains uncertain as Hyundai opted against fielding a top-level car for 2027, focusing instead on re-homologating its i20 N Rally2. With Toyota firmly engaged with Ott Tanak and evaluating Kalle Rovanpera's potential return, a reunion with M-Sport appears to stand out as the most logical and competitive pathway for Fourmaux to secure a top-tier seat for the upcoming regulatory era.
Addressing the ongoing links, Fourmaux insisted that he is keeping all of his professional options open rather than rushing into an impulsive career choice. Speaking exclusively to DirtFish, the rally star emphasized the importance of carefully evaluating every available project before committing to his next competitive chapter in world rallying.

"When you don’t have any drive for next year, you are looking into every project actually," Fourmaux told DirtFish. "So actually, I’m just very open. I will take my time to take the decision." When asked if he had established a strict self-imposed deadline to finalize his 2027 plans, he gave a clear, succinct response: "Monte Carlo? That’s all." Official entries for the season-opening classic close on Sunday, December 20.
Fourmaux's overriding priority is locking down a factory Rally1 drive at the earliest possible opportunity. While acknowledging he could tolerate a transitional year in slower machinery if necessary, his ultimate target is competing at the sharp end of the field. Meanwhile, M-Sport team principal Richard Millener acknowledged that securing an elite-level driver remains vital to spearheading their upcoming car development program and steering the squad toward future success.
