Emil Lindholm approaches Rally Sardinia 2025 with a fresh mindset. After a season of ups and downs, the Finnish driver aims to close his WRC2 campaign with a smile, not pressure.
Lindholm's best results this year were fourth place in WRC2 in Japan and Estonia. Rally Finland ended in a crash, while in Croatia and the Canary Islands he finished well adrift of the class leaders. Now, in Sardinia, he no longer burdens himself with the championship target.
"I'm feeling good. This is one of my favourite rallies, although I always say the same thing at every event. One advantage of WRC2, of course, is that you can cherry-pick a little. I've always liked this rally," Lindholm told RallyJournal.com.
With no pressure over his championship position, the 30-year-old can enjoy the driving. "As far as the championship is concerned, the situation means I can genuinely enjoy the driving without having to think so much about the result or feeling that I have to win."
However, competition in WRC2 Sardinia is expected to remain fierce. Of the class's leading names, only Frenchman Yohan Rossel is absent. "We've seen quite a lot of incident-packed rallies this year, and I think this will be another one. There are some really rough sections, and we already saw someone hit a tree on the shakedown. Saturday in particular has some very challenging stages," he explained.
Lindholm also predicts the order will change frequently. "I think the order will change many times during the rally."
A new approach is in place. After a subdued campaign, the most important thing is to rediscover his enjoyment behind the wheel. "We've changed our approach. Earlier in the year, there was really only ever one position in mind – first place. Now we're going out there to drive and enjoy ourselves, and we'll see where that leaves us. If we're still in the mix on Sunday, then we'll have to push."
