Zandvoort has always held a special place on the Formula 1 calendar. The Dutch circuit returned in 2021 after a 36-year absence, and since then it has witnessed the rise of a new era. But its rich history goes far beyond the modern comeback.
The first race at Zandvoort took place in 1950, though it wasn't part of the world championship. It wasn't until 1952 that the Dutch GP officially became a round of the F1 season, with the inaugural win going to Alberto Ascari for Ferrari. From there, legendary names have graced the winner's list at this banked circuit.
The 1960s belonged to Jim Clark, who won three straight editions from 1963 to 1965 with Lotus. Then came Jackie Stewart, also a three-time winner here, twice with Matra and once with Tyrrell. The likes of Niki Lauda, James Hunt, and Nelson Piquet have also triumphed, underscoring the track's prestige.

After a long hiatus, the Dutch GP returned in 2021 and was immediately dominated by Max Verstappen. The local hero won three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023, bringing Red Bull to the top in front of his home crowd. However, Verstappen's reign at Zandvoort ended in 2024 when Lando Norris of McLaren broke the spell.
Norris won again at Zandvoort in 2026, while his teammate Oscar Piastri took victory in 2025. McLaren's surge to the front shows that Zandvoort is now a battleground between the top teams, and the competition there is set to intensify in the coming seasons.
With a storied history featuring some of the greatest names in motorsport, the Dutch GP remains one of the most anticipated rounds on the F1 calendar. From Ascari to Norris, Zandvoort continues to demand bravery and precision from every driver.
