Pecco Bagnaia's struggles to find feeling with the GP26 Ducati have become a major talking point at the San Marino MotoGP. However, Ducati boss David Tardozzi insists there is no crisis of trust between the two parties. "I am sure there is no problem of trust between Ducati and Pecco, both ways," Tardozzi told the MotoGP world feed on Friday at Misano.
Bagnaia, a double world champion, is going through a difficult period. After four successive podium finishes before the summer break, he crashed out of the British and Aragon Grands Prix. His complaints about the front-end of the GP26 and lack of rear grip have intensified. On Thursday, he said he needed "old things" to improve his feeling, adding that Ducati would be leading right now if it had four GP24s on the grid.
Those comments sparked speculation about his relationship with the team. But Tardozzi firmly denied it. "Pecco has his ideas, but after '24 we won the championship in '25," he explained. "He still wants some confidence that this old bike was giving to him, and unfortunately he hasn't found on that new bike. We are trying hard to bring him back that feeling, which is mainly on the front and on the corner speed. It seems we haven't done that yet. We are trying to bring back that feeling for him, mainly here at Misano where we know that he is very fast."
On paper, Bagnaia's performance at Misano was indeed disappointing. He ended Friday practice in 19th and will have to go through Q1 for the fourth successive round. Meanwhile, his Ducati teammate Marc Marquez has won four grands prix this season despite not being at his physical best due to an ongoing shoulder issue. Marquez is now just 19 points from the championship lead.
The pressure on Bagnaia is mounting, but Tardozzi reaffirmed the team's full commitment. "I know because daily I speak with him and I know that there is no problems between us," he said. "He knows perfectly that we are trying hard to help him, and he knows perfectly we will try hard with him until the last lap of the last race."
Tardozzi's statement also answers doubts about Bagnaia's future at Ducati. Although Pecco Bagnaia's performance is declining, the Italian manufacturer's full support remains unwavering. Now, the question is whether Bagnaia can quickly rediscover his confidence, especially at Misano, a circuit that has historically been kind to him.
With Marquez continuing to pressure in the standings, Bagnaia is demanded to bounce back immediately. His failures in the last two races have pushed him further away from the title hunt. But as Tardozzi says, Ducati will not abandon him. "We will try hard until the last lap," he stressed. Can Bagnaia repay that trust? We'll find out on track.
