Andrea Dovizioso has finally spoken about the delicate situation surrounding Francesco Bagnaia. Not with technical analysis, nor with sharp criticism. Quite the opposite: the man who once felt the heat of the Ducati factory seat chose to hold back. For him, what Pecco is going through is not just a performance crisis to be dissected in public.
Since the start of the season, Francesco Bagnaia has seemed to lose his footing. Race after race passed, but his trajectory never improved. The lowest point came at Misano, a circuit that should have been home. Instead of bouncing back, he sank further: eliminated in Q1 and failing to finish again on Sunday. A painful contrast to his status as a double world champion.
Dovizioso, who experienced the bittersweet life with the red team, admitted he is deeply curious about the root cause. But he kept that curiosity tightly sealed. “The Bagnaia case is truly, truly complex,” he said on the 04 Bar podcast. “I’m very curious and would really like to know what’s in the engineers’ heads and in Pecco’s head. But it’s not possible. So we have to stay out of it because the situation is too bad for me to comment on.”
That statement is not without reason. According to Dovizioso, what Bagnaia faces is not merely a rider unhappy with a fifth or sixth place. There is a much deeper dimension, something personal and invisible from the outside. “It’s too much. We would be touching big, personal things that we cannot know. So it’s only right that we, that I, tread carefully,” he stressed.
He added, “We are not talking about a Bagnaia who finishes fifth or sixth and is unhappy because he wanted to win the championship. We are talking about something so big, even from hearing his interviews. In my opinion, we are touching things that are too personal and sensitive. We must stay out of it.”
Dovizioso also hopes that one day Bagnaia will share his story. But for now, he chooses not to speculate. “If one day he wants to tell it, or if there is a chance to know more, as a fan I am curious. Until then, we must know our place.”
This statement serves as a reminder that behind the helmet and balaclava, there is a human with burdens not always visible. Bagnaia and Ducati will indeed end their long journey at the end of the season. But until the final finish line, this storm must still be weathered. And for Dovizioso, the only appropriate attitude is to give space, not add pressure.
